Taste wise, I'd say Karu's is closer to what I usually have in Malaysia, which is a stronger spice taste and more hearty curries. The white rice that they serve are also cooked nicely and not mushy at all. If you have a larger group, please try their Fish Head Curry which is a highly recommended dish.
Ordering the food is quite straight forward, just approach the food counter and indicate if you'd like to have your food on banana leaf or on a metal food plate. I personally enjoy banana leaf as you can have unlimited side vegetables, rice and papadom. Next, just point out to the other side dishes you want (averagely, its SGD 4.50 per plate). They have about 10 varieties to choose from, including chicken, fish, mutton, crab, prawns and squid.
Overall, the place is old but clean, albeit a little out of the way (the nearest station is the Bukit Panjang LRT) but there are some buses which ply this road. Parking space is conveniently located around the back of the restaurant.
Our bill came up to SGD 20 + with plain water, and we were absolutely stuffed!
(ps. I will return tomorrow for dinner with another group of friends to try out their other dishes)
UPDATE 1st August : I returned to try their Indian styled Fish Head Curry (SGD 32 - served 7 of us) and it was a nice curry, but I found the meat too soft (it was a kind of red fish) and salty. Nevertheless, it was quite fun to share the dishes for Buka Puasa.

Wowww... looks Yummi!!!
Are the sides free flow ?
Yes, the sides (vege + papadom) and rice are free flow. What I missed is the dried chilli (Majjiga Mirapakaayalu) sample of what it looks like is here : http://www.sailusfood.com/2006/04/05/majjiga-mirapakaayalu-sun-dried-chillis/
