Eminent Frog Porridge @ Lorong 19 Geylang, Singapore

Good day!  It was a fruitful trip day hunting for good bargains for jogging shoes in peninsular, and some camera add-ons . So during dinner me and my friends were really hungry and decided to go eminent frog porridge to check out what is the hype is all about.

Eminent is quite popular among the locals for frog porridge. As for myself I don't really fancy frog porridge, I have also tasted a fairbit of other frog porridges in Geylang area but non strike a chord in me.  So anyway head down to  lorong 19 at Geylang . Nearest mrt will be Aljunied or kallang mrt station. For tourist I think is better to get a cab because most cab drivers will know this place, finding this place can be a 30 min- treasure hunt saga. You can actually see tons of signage  bearing their restaurant's name upon reaching.

Champagne Chicken @ New Paris Restaurant SS@

Of course, this restaurant offers more than this Champagne Chicken but since I only got to snap this picture, what the heck.

This restaurant, dulu-dulu, is a very ap tap restaurant. The floor is not cement but all thin planks. They are noticeable by the way they wrap many layers of plastic sheets at the table so that everytime the customer finish their dinner, all they have to do is to tahpow the table and the next customer can sit and order immediately. this practice speeds the 'table clearing process'.

Wantan Mee @ Restoran New Green Hill

So when it comes to wantan mee, everybody got their favourite stall, their fav spec, their fav style.

This stall is not my favourite but since i tahpow from this uncle ting last weekend, then i might as well blog it up.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng

One of the famous unique life style in Malaysia is having Supper in late night. Mamak is 1 of the favourable places for Supper. If you are staying around PJ area, here I would like to recommend you the mamak stall called Restaurant Al - Ehsan.

They are famous with their Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng. It is Superb.

Choi Yuen Lo Mai Kai @ Sungkai, Perak

Sungkai is a small town about 1.5 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur and is a good stop if you intend to visit the famous Felda Sungai Klah Hot Springs or make a trip up to Ipoh. I've been to the hot springs twice so far, and I must say that it's quite clean and well maintained. They have many different pools, some in the public area where you can boil eggs and the private enclosures that fit up to 10 people

Anyway, after a nice dip at Sungai Klah, we'd usually head to Sungkai town, which is several rows of old buildings, some dating back to pre-World War 2. Our 'target' is to sample Choi Yuen's famous lo mai kai (glutinous rice dumpling), baos (dumplings) and some good old simple home styled Chinese dishes. It's easy to miss, as it's quite hidden, but look out for a small fish market / fish tackle shop - it's just opposite. Like most parts of Ipoh, they speak Cantonese here, so it's quite easy to order your food from the white boards on the wall.

The star here is the lo mai kai. It's steamed just right, and it's made up of chewy rice, pork slices and mushrooms. It's not too salty or mushy either, which is a sign of repeated steaming. They can even sell frozen lo mai kai for you to bring home and steam it. We'd usually get about 6-7 of these to satisfy our cravings when we're back in KL. I don't have any pictures (my last visit there was in 2011), but I'd recommend you to look out for this gem of a find. The people who run the business, especially the cook is really getting on with age, so I doubt that their children would want to continue this, so time is short, go for a food discovery trip !
