Pork Noodles. There's so many variations, pork ball noodles, minced pork noodles, pork cube noodles, dry version, soupy versions... pork is such a versatile meat. I made my way to the Jalan Kebun Market and Food Centre near Bishan / Toa Payoh one fine Saturday morning and queued up for 5 minutes behind sad looking aunties and furious smartphone-keyboard-pounding youngsters for my pork noodles fix.
I ordered their standard bowl (actually there isn't much choice, its either pork noodles or pork noodles). The noodles are served in a nice traditional 'Cockerel' bowl and I can tell you that food magically taste better !
So this pork noodles had all the marks of a good meal, a hearty, full bodied soup, minced pork which has been marinated and lightly cooked beforehand, pork slices, some fish balls, a nice runny egg, fried garlic bits, some leafy vegetables (I'm bad with vegetable names) and help us all .. crispy lard. The first thing you should do with dishes like this is .. take a nice spoonful of the delightful soup. Let it flow down your throat, let the porky goodness find its way deep inside and fill your porky stomach with some porky love.
Then, take your chopsticks, cradle some soup, some noodles, some pork with your spoon and continue to savor the beautiful marriage of everything in the bowl. This is a journey, my friends. A journey that a Pork Noodle Master shared with you when you passed him 4 bucks. If you are a big eater, they have the Small, Medium or Large sizes to cater to your needs. I love this noodles, which is very similar to the Pork Noodles in Mayflower Restaurant in Brickfields KL. This gets a 5 out of 5 from me. Lovely, just lovely.
