J&H Char Siew

My friend recommended me this char siew delivery when i told her i will be eating at home last weekend. I called them to arrange this order, i ordered 4 strips of char siew, RM25 each, boy is it expensive!!! as i got some friends over to makan. The order-taker asked if i wanna have the strips cut or not, i said leave it, i wanna cut it to my own size. he also asked if i wan those black burnt stuff trimmed off, i said no as my wife digs that stuff, unhealthy but a little is okay.

so, on saturday evening, the delivery came, i paid them, it came in aluminium tin foil, it is still warm, no actually it is hot as i can see it steaming. i roll open the foil and the most aromatic smell filled my house i kid you not. goddamn, i made the right decision of not getting them to cut the strips. as you can see from the picture, i already whacked more than 3/4 of a strip before taking the picture.

in the tin foil, they included some cucumber slices, which is thoughtful of them since cucumber sorta like cools and negate all the bad stuff from eating the black burnt sides. anyway, the burnt sides is quite acceptable, just the right amount. the char siew itself can be called the 8th wonder of the world. it is slightly sticky/crispy on the outside, and soft and tender in the inside. i can see that there are three layer pork they used. this plate of 4 strips was finished by the 4 of us within minutes. all of them got the contact from me, so i am sharing it over here.

anyway, they also gave us some char siew sauce to go with the rice. it is not those outside thick and sweet crap we always take but this is really something different, i think it is lard and the secret recipe sauce that makes it good with rice. all of us had 2 bowls of rice each.

writing this makes me look forward for this coming weekend, as i just ordered another 4 strips. this time it is for the beer session. ohhhh, i will give up 5 years of my life for this.

Oh, i forgotten to mention, they are 100% homemade and not mass-produce so sometimes they cannot keep up with the orders.

How to order: Call/text/whatsapp 012-3898710 for pre-order (Monday to Friday).

Delivery: All delivery will be done only on Saturday and Sunday as arranged. Only Selangor delivery.

Price: RM25 per strip. Yes, it is premium priced but the fact that no artificial coloring or msg additives used makes it worth it. Try it once, you will never eat other char siew ever....

(Off-Topic) What NOT To Name Your Restaurant

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — A marketing gimmick to lure customers to the AK-47 Nasi Kandar Restaurant was shot down by City Hall after the owners were issued a compound.
The nasi kandar shop, located in Jalan Sultan Ismail, bears the signboard of two Kalashnikovs and another picture of a uniformed man holding the assault rifle.

Claypot Chicken Rice @ Paramount Petaling Jaya, Restoran Sorn

What is it: Claypot Chicken Rice. Use original claypots, not those plastic types.

Why so delisyious: The moment you open the claypot cover, the smell is enough to make you crazy. they are generous with the seasoning and sauce so that the rice does not turn white. the chicken is nicely done too, not too over cooked, just nice and tender.

Specialty: The burnt rice (fan jiu). Is quite easy to scrape it off the pot for the grand finale. Another specialty is that the old uncle who personally cook this claypot rice is forever sucking on a cigarette. Try not to be too picky on your order or you might kena fark.

Restoran Hua Xing @ Wisma LBS, Sungai Way

Hua Xing is one of the places that has all the hallmarks of a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant. It's located on the first floor of unassuming Wisma LBS, which is accessible from a small road from Sungai Way market or from a small slip road right after the Sunway Motorola bridge. If you're planning to dine here, be sure to call up in advance to reserve a table. The place usually fills up quickly with large groups from 6.30pm.
